109 high density multi-family units up for subdivision approval in Pawleys Island

We have ANOTHER URGENT land use situation in Pawleys Island that may seriously impact our community.

On Thursday, August 18, Georgetown County Planning Commission will consider approval of TWO MAJOR HIGH DENSITY SUBDIVISIONS in the PARKERSVILLE neighborhood with a total of 109 multi-family housing units!

Subdivision #1 (Osprey) - Parkersville Rd.

56 High Density Multi-Family Units

  • East side of Parkersville Road just north of Martin Luther King.

  • Developer wants HIGH DENSITY, but parcel is designated MEDIUM density on county Future Land Use Map

  • NOT affordable or workforce housing.

  • This parcel contains significant wetlands & protected trees.

Subdivision #2 (Regatta) - Petigru Rd.

53 High Density Multi-Family Units

  • East side of Petigru, south of Martin Luther King.

  • Developer wants HIGH DENSITY, but parcel is designated MEDIUM density on county Future Land Use Map.

  • NOT affordable or workforce housing.

  • This parcel contains forested wetlands & protected trees.

THE COMMUNITY OPPOSES THESE

PROPOSED HIGH DENSITY SUBDIVISIONS

(1) This would be a TRAFFIC, FLOODING, & STORMWATER NIGHTMARE in an area already plagued with problems from overdevelopment and inadequate, overburdened infrastructure.

(2) These HIGH DENSITY proposals EXCEED the MEDIUM density designation of the comprehensive plan.

(3) This is NOT affordable or workforce housing.

(4) It will DISPLACE CURRENT RESIDENTS and threaten permanent loss of cultural heritage and character of this traditional neighborhood.

(5) It will result in the loss of many protected TREES & WETLANDS.
