A Big Win for our Community!

We are delighted to report that last night, the Planning Commission voted 4-2 to DENY a HIGH DENSITY MULTI-FAMILY SUBDIVISION on land in the Parkersville neighborhood of Pawleys Island that is designated as medium density by our Comprehensive Plan. The high density plan was proposed by a Myrtle Beach corporate developer.

This proposed subdivision would set a dangerous precedent for more inappropriate high density development in Pawleys Island and Litchfield, permanently destroying the natural character of our beautiful community.

Many residents turned out for the meeting and wrote letters of opposition on the basis that the proposed project violates the Georgetown County Comprehensive Plan and would create additional flooding, stormwater, and traffic in an area plagued with serious existing problems. These are issues that affect the entire Waccamaw Neck.

Planning Commissioner Rev. Robert Davis led a Motion to Deny the proposed plan. His motion was supported by Marlajean Hamby, Zannie Graham, and Sandra Bundy. Commissioners Elizabeth Krauss and Johnny Weaver voted in favor of the high density development.

We thank the four Planning Commissioners who have been consistently adhering to state law and voting to deny applications that do not conform to the Comprehensive Plan.

Your input and attendance at public meetings matters! Together, we are making a big difference in our community, and we need your continued support.
