KIG is pleased to report an important victory for the community!
The Planning Commission voted 4-3 on Thursday evening to recommend DENIAL of a request by a developer to change zoning from R-1 to R-10 to substantially increase density on a lot bordering the marsh on Marboeuf Court in Pawleys Island.
KIG Advocacy provided legal representation for many neighboring landowners who opposed this zoning change including the McMaster, Powell, and Haddock families as well as members of the greater community.

The Planning Commission received more than 220 letters of opposition and the council chamber was packed full of people from the community who came to oppose the zoning change. Many people from the neighborhood spoke during the public hearing.
The Planning Commission vote was as follows: Marla Hamby, representing District 2 as an appointee of Councilman Bob Anderson, made the motion to deny the zoning change and Sandra Bundy seconded the motion.
Johnny Weaver and Zannie Graham agreed and voted to deny the request along with Ms. Hamby and Ms. Bundy. Chairman Elizabeth Krauss, Robert Davis, and Zacharius Grate voted against the motion to deny.
This win along with the deferral of a zoning change request to increase density on a parcel at Petigru and MLK is strong evidence that the voice of the community in the form of letters and attendance at hearings is making a difference!
The next step is that this matter will be scheduled before County Council. We will continue to keep you posted on all developments.
